Compass Group Australia is a proud sponsor of the Tradeshow and Managing Director, Shelley Roberts, will be joining the CEO Panel at the Knowledge Forum this year. Shelley spoke with us about the importance of Indigenous engagement to Compass Group and what to expect at the Compass Lounge.

Compass Group has been a proud sponsor of Connect for a number of years.  Why has Compass Group remained a committed partner?

Compass Group is a founding member of Supply Nation. We agree that supplier diversity is everyone’s business. We are pleased to support Connect 2017 and keen to share our experience with other companies who are embarking on their own reconciliation journey.

Why is Supplier Diversity important to Compass Group?

As a large food service organisation, our care extends beyond our customers and clients to the issues that are important in the communities in which we operate. Supporting Indigenous communities through employee and supply chain diversity has been core to our corporate responsibility goals and we are immensely proud of what we have achieved in the Indigenous space.

In 2016 Supply Nation named Compass Group ‘Corporate Member of the Year’.   As the country’s leading food services provider, we run a very large procurement operation and have been very committed to introducing supplier diversity into our supply chain – creating opportunities for Indigenous businesses to build capacity, reach new markets and achieve ongoing sustainable commercial outcomes.

In 2016 Compass Group Australia purchased over $7 million dollars’ worth of goods and services from 26 Indigenous suppliers. We have also established 11 Joint Venture Companies with Traditional Owners and in 2015 we generated over $312 million in revenue which was shared with our Indigenous partners.

What would you say to someone asking why they should attend the Tradeshow at Connect 2017?

If you have been considering how as a business you may be able to assist Indigenous Australians, then this is a great opportunity to meet with representatives of the Indigenous business community and network with likeminded businesses who are happy to share their experience.

What can attendees expect at the Compass Group lounge?

We hope all delegates will take the time to visit the Compass Lounge and enjoy the wonderful range of Indigenous food on offer.  This year, we are located at the rear of the trade exhibit area in a spacious lounge inspired by contemporary Indigenous designs.  Be our guest.  Sit down, relax and enjoy the Indigenous sampling menu prepared by our Executive Chefs – featuring chicken & quandong or beef & pepper berry pie, kangaroo-pods, chocolate-coated macadamia nuts and strawberry gum cheesecake – all washed down with a Bondi Water or an alcohol-free Byron Bay Wild Cider.   Of course, all featured produce will be sourced from Supply Nation certified partners – so come and meet the enthusiasts behind these brands and talk supplier diversity with the wider Compass family.
