Ian is a highly skilled procurement professional with more than 30 years private and public sector experience in Senior Procurement roles. Ian is a solutions orientated Procurement Manager, also responsible for strategic Contract Governance, who formulates and drives a consistent approach towards all sourcing, purchasing and tendering activities, so as to ensure value for money is maximised and cost savings generated. Ian ensures that all purchasing activities support and strengthen the strategic objectives, processes and probity, for one of Australia’s highest profile local government organisations, the Council of the City of Sydney (COS).
Having also held senior procurement roles in the manufacturing, health and retail sectors, Ian has extensive category management, strategic sourcing and commercial negotiation expertise and is often the leading advisor for high profile projects. Ian has been instrumental in the implementation of best practices within the procurement processes at COS and embraces cutting-edge processes that deliver better outcomes for Council as well as the Community. Examples of this in practice saw delivery of an Alliancing tender model and an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) arrangement. These processes, along with the Procurement training he continues to develop and deliver, demonstrate his commitment to the continuous development of his staff. Ian is passionate about open, transparent and accountable processes together with fairness and competition within Local Government.
Ian’s expertise is much sought after and he is often asked to speak at conferences, both locally and inter-state, and has also been featured in a major European Procurement publication. Recognition by colleagues and peers alike has seen Ian receive a number of awards in the Procurement field. Always wanting to do more, Ian champions social and indigenous groups, in an effort to help them develop into robust suppliers. This grows their business while diversifying the City’s supply chain.
As a professional, Ian enjoys a challenge and responds by asking the appropriate questions to consider what could be. He constantly drives to gain greater understanding and acceptance that the greatest opportunity to deliver the best value outcome at the end, is to robustly test at the beginning, what are we really trying to achieve.
